Skincare tips for oily skin

Oily skin can be really upsetting when excess oil accumulates with sweat. But there is a remedy for this. Read on to know the skincare tips for oily skin.

Oily skin can give you a tough time. There is a gland called the sebaceous gland and when it is over-active, there is excess production of sebum which leads to a shiny, greasy looking face. Oily skin also leads to problems like acne, blackheads and whiteheads and enlarged and clogged pores.
The only solution for this is to keep the oil production in control by following some regular skincare tips. Let’s take a look at the skincare tips for oily skin:

Cleansing is a must:
One fool proof way of tending to oily skin is cleansing. To keep the excess oil in control, it is necessary to cleanse up the skin and keep it clean at all times. It is essential to clean your face at least two or three times in a day to get rid of all the accumulated dirt and oil which leads to clogged pores and acne. Gel-based or foaming skincare products are the best for oily skin.

Scrubbing is your friend:
Scrubbing is good for oily skin. It is a mandate to exfoliate oily skin once or twice a week. To eliminate dirt and dead skin cells and refresh your skin’s surface, make it a point to include exfoliation as a part of your daily routine. Be gentle and don’t scrub your skin too harsh.

Wear the mask every week:
Weekly face masks are highly effective for oily skin. After exfoliation, the next step is a face mask. This step is extremely important in the skincare routine for oily skin. Opt for face packs with kaolin and bentonite clay, sandalwood and multani mitti as these are very good for oily skin. They help in absorbing the excess oil. Wear the face mask once every week.

Alcohol-free toner:
Make sure to use an alcohol-free toner every day. Toning daily is a good way to say goodbye to the excess oil and dirt on your skin. Skin products with rosewater are excellent for toning. Toning helps in regulating the sebum and reducing the oil pouring out on the skin.

Moisturizer is a must:
Usually, the belief is moisturizer is not good for oily skin. But this isn’t true. Oily skin very much needs moisturizing and hydration. Depriving the skin of moisture will only cause it to produce more oil to compensate. However, do opt for an oil-free, non-comedogenic, water-based moisturizer.

Sunscreen always:
Don’t fear sunscreen. Avoiding sunscreen will cause dark spots, freckles resulting from sun exposure. Hence opt for a gel based sunscreen or skincare products that are oil-free. This will give you adequate protection from the sun.

Junk the junk:

Stay away from junk food and sugary foods. Drink lots of water to stay hydrated and flush out the toxins. Eat one fruit daily and include green leafy vegetables in your diet. These food items put together will regulate the oil your skin produces.

Remove make-up:
For oily skin, removing make-up before hitting the bed is a mandate. Sleeping with make-up on can damage the skin and further trigger excess oil production. Also, while applying make-up make sure to apply the primer which is for oily skin. Start with the primer before you begin the make-up.

Keep the stress down:
Manage your work and keep the stress down. Stress causes the body to release more androgen hormones which lead to more oil production.

Excessive use of skin products:
We all try and experiment with skin products way too much. In case of oily skin, this experimentation leads to excess oil production and damage.
Oily skin is less prone to wrinkles and other signs of ageing. You are blessed to have oily skin and be proud of that. The one thing you need to do is put in the effort to take care of your skin and eat right. With all the skincare products you use, make sure to use homemade face masks weekly.

You skin is your shield, it will protect you if you protect it. Make time for your skin and let the beautiful you glow.
